How to measure your windows
Window Measurement Tips
- Always measure the width first, and then the height of the window.
- Do not make any assumptions about the size or shape of the window – measure it precisely as it is.
- When measuring your windows, be sure to measure from the outside of the window frame. This will ensure that your soundproof windows fit snugly against your existing window frames!
It’s also a good idea to measure multiple times to double-check your work. With just a little care and attention, you can be sure to get the perfect fit for your new windows.
To measure the width of the window, start at the left side and extend the tape measure all the way to the right side. Make sure to use the level to ensure that the tape measure is straight. Once you have the measurement, transfer it to the piece of chalk and mark the spot. Repeat this process for the height of the window. To get an accurate measurement, be sure to measure from the top of the window frame to the bottom.
Remember window dimensions include the whole unit — glass frames and sashes. Wood window dimensions are measured using glass dimensions.
After deciding you are going to invest in a soundproof window system with CitiQuiet, you will be asked to measure your windows and submit the information online. This is how you do it.
Step #1: Measure the Width of the Window (Horizontally)
Download our measurement form here
Getting an accurate measurement is the first necessary step prior to manufacturing your windows. To do so, you will need a tape measure and someone to help hold one end of the tape while you measure.
Width is the horizontal length across your window. Width is also known as the ‘left to right’ distance across your window. Start by measuring the width of the window at its narrowest point. Measure from one side jamb to the other side jamb on both the inside and outside of the window (four measurements total). To measure the width of your window, use a tape measure, laser measurement tool or ruler and take the measurement from the outermost left side to the outermost right side of your window.
Make sure to write down all measurements and fill out our Measurement form with the numbers.
Step #2: Measure the Height of the Window (Vertically)
Height is the vertical measurement from the top of your window to the bottom. Height is also known as ‘up and down’ or the ‘top to bottom’ distance. To measure the height of your window, use a tape measure or ruler and take the measurement from the outermost top side to the outermost bottom side of your window
